📖John Jospeh Dezellem - “I want YOU to be my neighbor!” (in Heaven)🌟

This week, we're diving into the life of John Joseph Dezellem, a man whom most of you’ve never heard of, but a man that had a mighty impact on many people’s lives and a profound one on me. At his memorial service in Gresham this last weekend, we learned many facts about a man who was a true DOER of the word.

He is an inspiration to me, an inspiration to many others who’s life he touched. 📚✨ Now I want him to be an inspiration to YOU. Learn from John - Learn how to Love selfishly, Learn how to think of others before yourself, Learn to take people into your life/home with no motive other than to care for and help the individual.

📌 I learned John was:

  • A Master Storyteller: He loved to engage with his friends, family, and those in need. We heard numerous stories of how a simple conversation would lead into a time warp with hours quickly zooming by. Time just flew when you talked with John. 📖

  • Unselfish! He had pure motives: During those conversations and many others, he wouldn’t talk about himself. He would always ask: How are you? How’s your family? What do you need? 🔍🌍

  • Impactful: Time after time many people would summarize their life spent with John - they ALL explained that John was the ultimate DOER of the Word. He unselfishly would do anything to help someone else before thinking of his own needs. In fact, he was notoriously LATE - but NOT in a bad way. It was ALWAYS because he was doing something for someone else. Listening to them, paying attention to them, serving them!🎙️🌐

🚀 How John Impacted My Life 🚀

Growing up and raising a family myself in this world has taught me many things. It was by John’s example that I realized how selfish I had been with my time, talent, and treasure.

Since John’s passing, I have shed a tear, not out of LOSS, but out of thankfulness. He taught me to be more like Jesus! To STRIVE to live a life that matters. I have dedicated my life to working hard to make a significant impact on the Kingdom. I can thank John for placing that seed within me. Giving me the confidence to not care what other people think.

I was shy with my Faith. I was scared to help others. I made the excuse that I was protecting my family. 🙌📈 Was I protecting them? Or was that the “convenient” thing to do? Was it easier for me to say “I can’t help that person, I’ve got more important things to do.” That’s a phrase I doubt John EVER said and probably never even thought.

THANK YOU JOHN! I will do my best to bring as many neighbors to heaven so we can all be YOUR neighbors.

I look forward to giving you a great big bear hug when we meet again.

It is one thing to stand before the mirror of God's Word and admire what we see, and another entirely to let it change us, to be the actors of its divine revelation. The Book of James isn't a collection to be savored only intellectually; it is a summons to action.

James presents us with a vivid analogy of a man who glances at his reflection and immediately forgets what he looked like. Such is the nature of our human folly. We hear the Word, we nod in agreement, yet we walk away unchanged, untouched, as if we'd never encountered the living God at all. How shallow such interaction proves to be! It's tantamount to acknowledging that one needs sustenance yet walking away from a feast.

You see, the Bible is not just another book; it is the mirror of our souls, the revealer of truth, the "perfect law" that grants liberty. To merely hear the Word is a first step, yes, but a wholly insufficient one. For the Word is designed to be lived, to be incorporated into the very marrow of our being. It is a law of liberty, not of bondage—a liberating, freeing reality that, when implemented, blesses our existence.

  • The Word is a mirror: It reflects not only what is wrong with us but also what can be right if we follow its guidance.

  • The Law of Liberty: God's commands are not there to restrict us but to set us free, to show us a way of life that is fulfilling and complete.

  • From Hearing to Doing: The transition from hearing God's Word to acting upon it is the move from religious spectatorship to spiritual vitality.

Don't be mere spectators of God's grand design. Don't be satisfied with a cursory glance in the spiritual mirror and then go on with your life as if nothing has happened. Be doers of the word, so you may be blessed in your doing. What you will find is not just a law, but liberty; not just rules, but a relationship; not just doctrines, but deliverance. May your doing of the Word be as natural as breathing, and as necessary.
